We planned our accidental trip to Hawaii very last minute, like 2 weeks prior to going. We weren’t supposed to go to Hawaii, but there were no flights out of LA to head to Melbourne, so we got to explore a new state en route to Australia![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]As we searched for places to stay, The Modern Honolulu Hotel caught our eye. The spacious rooms, the beautiful art work, the pool and proximity to the beach. It was perfect. But, silly us, we attempted to book way too late and our attempt to book during the holidays was just cricket sounds (and mild laughter).
[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]We pushed our luck, this unbelievable hotel was not available to book a week before Christmas, during Christmas. Who would have thought? [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Well, how else can we see this place during our stay in Hawaii? We just had to visit, I mean, it’s home to one of Obama’s favorite restaurant, Morimoto! (Who was there while we were in Hawaii, and if you think Obama traffic is bad in LA, try it on an island). As we searched their instagram, we found out they had an avo smash and we were instantly sold. No need to tell us twice! So we organized to go to The Modern Honolulu Hotel’s outdoor restaurant, The Grove, for a delicious brunch.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]We met Michelle at the entrance and got a bit of a tour of the hotel and its facilities. The hotel boasts very beautiful Hawaiian style art work by Herbie Fletcher. One of our favorites was the art piece of all the broken surf boards from Pipeline. I would totally have this piece at my house.
[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]We also loved the Herbie Fletcher piece that was a bookcase that hid “The Study”, a bar/ café area in The Modern Hotels lobby. It’s a bookshelf decorated with cute shells and old school photos, making it the most homey and nostalgic art work there! It was really beautiful.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The Modern Honolulu Hotel also had their Christmas theme, “Naught but Nice” decorated throughout the hotel. There were displays made of hundreds of ornaments and not to mention, the beautiful and fun Christmas spirit was immense![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text] [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text] [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Can I also say how much I love fern walls? The Modern had quite a few, and I fell in love. Just thought I should put that one out there…. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Ok, now the good part. BREAKFAST! We went to The Grove for breakfast, which was outdoors, with wooden picnic tables, fairy lights, and the view of their pool (which is awesome!). The pool also has this daybed experience, which is highly recommended as the beds looked like absolute heaven on a nice warm day! And if you are hungover, lounging by the pool with a Bloody Mary (or 4) would be prime.
[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Anyways, back to breakfast. The Aussie ordered his flat white, naturally, and I went with a mocha. In our world, coffees are a must. Mainly, for the Aussie or he gets cranky and honestly, ain’t nobody got time for that!
Also, after taking this picture, I picked up the menu and spilled the coffee EVERYWHERE. Rather than kicking out the crazy clutz (that’s me), they quickly cleaned the table and brought me a new one. Woa, that was quick![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]I ordered the avocado smash with a poached egg and side of bacon, obviously, and Jack ordered the Eggs Benedict.
[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]I am such an avocado fiend, that the bits of radish and feta and generous amounts of avocado totally made my day. Not only did it look beautiful, but it tasted amazing! I would easily order it over and over it again!
[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Jack ordered the eggs Benedict with poached eggs, Canadian bacon (the good kind!!), hollandaise sauce, and a potato cake. I think everyone by now knows our love for poached eggs and Jack had to order some. He loved it! He said Canadian bacon tastes similar to Aussie bacon (vs the fried crunchy bacon in America).
**Please note, my glasses make an appearances in all pics to make the pics look cool and hipstery. Did it work? ;)
[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]While you’re there, don’t forget to check out the pools. There is one near The Grove, where you can have the ultimate daybed experience or the pool upstairs, perfect to perch for sunrise or sunset with a drink in hand. It almost reminds us of Vegas (without all the gross Vegas nonsense). You will get great views of the beach and a relaxing day hanging out poolside.
[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]We highly recommend coming out to the Modern Honolulu for brunch on your stay in Oahu. The meals were prepared with fresh ingredients, the vibe was relaxing and calm, the atmosphere just blew our minds, and of course, the taste was just out of this world!
