Everyone knows of our coffee obsession by now, so when we were trying to decide where to go for our next vacation, we thought Seattle. We heard the coffee scene in Seattle is unreal. So in 3 days we were able to cram pack a whole lot of coffee into our days, with a special thanks to Heather from Seattle By Foot Coffee tours showing us some of the best coffee shops in Seattle!I’m not the big coffee person (although, I do love my mochas) but I thought the Aussie and his coffee obsession would want to explore the best coffee with a tour. I tried to put my coffee and caffeine intake to a test—it wasn’t the greatest outcome but I learned a lot![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
It’s always exciting for us to explore coffee shops in different places. Usually, we just go to knock back a coffee and to do a bit of work. But Seattle was different. Since the coffee scene was so heavy, we wanted to learn about it! Heather from Seattle by Foot taught us all about the difference between fair and direct trade with the coffee beans and roasting throughout Seattle. And just so you know, direct trade standards are regulated by the roasters themselves who visit the farms, build relationships with the farmers, know the product, and ensure exceptional quality of the coffee. Fair Trade are regulated by a third party, Fair Trade USA. Fair trade does not regulate the quality of the coffee and beans apart from the conditions it was grown.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
Fun fact: Did you know that coffee beans should last a maximum to 8 months?
Anyways, we absolutely loved the coffee scene in Seattle and we can’t thank Seattle by Foot for not only showing us the best coffee but for teaching us about the best coffee as well! Here are our favorite coffee shops in Seattle (mostly in downtown Seattle).[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
1. Fonte Coffee and Wine Bar
Fonte was the first stop on our coffee tour with Seattle by Foot. Fonte is known to be one of the best coffee roasters in the northwest. We tried three types of single origin espressos– the Brasil, the Rawanda, and D4. It’s so interesting to see the different types of tastes and consistencies through the coffees. My favorite was the D4, it was like coffee chocolate! Did you know Fonte grinds their own beans made to order so you receive the freshest cup of coffee?[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text] [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text] [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]2. Storyville Coffee CompanyWe stumbled into this coffee shop by accident to shield ourselves while it rained. So to keep us warm, we got some coffees, and they were delicious! It was a happy accident! The coffee shop not only had great coffee, but also a great story! With every cup of coffee purchased, Storyville donates to reputable charities to end human trafficking.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] [/vc_column_text][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]3. Ghost Alley EspressoEver felt adventurous enough to try a mystery mocha? Well, thanks to Heather from Seattle by Foot and her great knowledge, she brought us to Ghost Alley Espresso, a hidden coffee shop under Pike place market, near the gum wall. Without her, I don’t think we would have found it! But as I was saying, ask for a mystery mocha (Mocha’s are my thing, Jack still got a flat white) and this mocha was so good, that Jack even liked it! We came back here the next day for our coffee fix.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]4. Local Colors
Local colors is located in the heart of Pike Place Market. It’s a cute little shop with eclectic decoration and great coffee. Plus, all the art on the walls are actually for sale supporting local artists. Local Colors has delicious foods, yummy coffee, charging stations, and a fun vibe! Eric from Eat Seattle showed us this gem! Oh did we mention there is $4 beer anytime? Yep.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]
[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text] [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]5. Cherry Tree
Cherry Tree is actually a chain in Seattle, which is surprising to us that a chain coffee shop is actually pretty decent! Its family owned and there are 10 in Seattle. The coffee shop has bagels, breakfast goods and pastries. We went to the one in downtown Seattle near the Underground tour, it was a great coffee pick me up that we needed.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]
[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text] [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]6. Street Bean
Street Bean is a non profit organization and coffee shop that provides street-involved youth and young adults an opportunity to rebuild their lives. Every coffee bag you buy, funds one hour of their training. Not only is this place empowering and building people’s futures, but they make a mean coffee. We highly recommend coming to Street Bean, it was one of our favorite coffee shops in Seattle.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]7. Caffe Ladro
Caffe Ladro was a stop on our walking tour with Seattle by Foot. We tried two very different blends-the Medium Ladro Roast and Ethiopia Roast. Did you know that Ethiopia are the #1 suppliers in coffee beans? Anyways, we had these two tastings, I preferred the Ethiopia and Jack preferred the Medium Ladro (which was a bit lighter, a little too bitter for me)! We didn’t get our usual mochas and flat whites but we saw many with some beautiful drinks!

Love Seattle and you are right, they have the best coffee ever. Specially, you get to enjoy a cup of coffee from the 1st Starbucks in the world. We loved being there and we enjoyed coffee so much that we barely slept during our vacation.
We actually skipped the first starbucks from the massive lines (plus they have starbucks in LA!)
I went to Seattle way back in 2010 and didn’t venture out of the original Starbucks at Pike Place when it comes to coffee. Come to think of it, I actually remember seeing Ghost Alley Espresso while navigating through the market.
