Well, it’s the Aussies first time in Hawaii, and what’s the first thing we do right after we land? Naturally, we surfed the oceans of Hawaii. Or well, I learned to surf at least while Jack impressed everyone and their moms with his skills. Despite the rain storm, we still paddled out!..kinda.
[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Jack follows the Aussie stereotype and can surf like beautiful man gliding on the ocean. I am terrified of the ocean so I just get on all fours on the fattest surf board hoping I wont fall in or hit the reef. I did fall in but hey, I didn’t hit the reef so I guess that’s a win, right?[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text] [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text] [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]We ventured out to test my skills, both swimming and surfing, and watched Jack show off his with Gone Surfing Hawaii. We flew from LA to Honolulu, bussed to Waikiki, and met the one and only, legendary, Kenny ready to take on the challenge of teaching me how to surf. Before we started, Kenny looked at me and goes, “ I am going to get you to do a headstand on the board by the end of the lesson”. I just scoffed at his face and told him, “keep dreaming.”[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]We started on the beach with land demos, practicing our paddles and getting up in the sand. Not bad, if I do say so myself. I am pretty good at surfing! I scooped the sand out of my way and stood up like a boss. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Kenny then tells us “It’s time to get in the ocean”. With a few whines and complaints, Kenny finally got me into the ocean telling me there are no sharks and fish. Lies. But hey, he got me in and paddled me out. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]He paddled me into the waves and pushed me to go catch one. First one, YES, I caught it!! How exhilarating! Is this what surfing’s like? I think I am a pro! Jack, watch out, I am comin’ for ya![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Kenny brings me back out, dragging me along with his board and toes and then pushes me back out. I caught another one. I must be really good. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Kenny then tells me “Ok, now you got to feel the wave, go get one and I wont push you out this time.” WHAT? NO! How can I do this without you Kenny!!! First solo attempt, I fall, second, I got up and then fell again, third, I caught a wave a couple meters down, on my own!!! [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Mind you, Kenny still towed me back in rather than me tiring out my big guns so I can continue my surf escapades. Thanks, Kenny. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Kenny, with his ambitious mind, looks at me and goes “Now for real fun. You will do a Headstand on a wave.” Ha, ok, keep dreaming.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]We tested out a few headstands not on a wave, and ok, it’s not to bad. Then, a wave is starting to form. Kenny pushes me out on the wave and yells “HEADSTAND, GO!!”. And in sheer panic mode, I got on all fours, stood on my head and rode that wave. I did it (and of course, Jack had missed filming it because hes still learning to use the gopro), but I stood on my head in the middle of the ocean on a surfboard![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text] [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text] [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]This would have never happened to me if it wasn’t for Gone Surfing Honolulu and Kenny. I surfed, I headstand, and better yet, I came out alive with no shark bites. Surfing in Hawaii was a bucket list for a Jack and doing a headstand on a surfboard only happened twice in my dreams (mostly, trying to impress Jack with my surfing skills at surf competitions so I can fit in with his family surf vacations).[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]If you head to Waikiki, surf with Gone Surfing Hawaii and face your fears.
